Location
Casa Mocho is located on the eastern side of Carvoeiro a former fishing village which is about 60km from Faro Airport and 5km from Lagoa.
The small square in the village centre is next to a tiny picturesque beach with high cliffs rising steeply on both sides.
The bright whitewashed houses and pretty café terraces lend an undeniable charm to the village, with older quaint properties tucked in between more modern buildings.
The narrow village streets are lined with restaurants, small shops and bars, with many providing live entertainment during the tourist season, creating a lively atmosphere both during the day and at night.
Carvoeiro is in the centre of the Algarve coastal region and is an excellent base for exploring the many attractions on offer.
20 minutes drive to the east of Casa Mocho is Albufeira with its bustling atmosphere and vibrant night life.
On the way stop off at Algarve Shopping, a large retail park near Ghia, where you will find everything from food to high quality shoes, clothes and electrical goods.
To the west of Casa Mocho is the delightful historic town of Lagos where street entertainers add to its charm. There is also a large modern marina with bars and clothes shops.
Driving from Casa Mocho to the north will take you to Silves the old Moorish capital of the Algarve which still has its medieval castle and cathedral. This market town in the heart of the citrus growing area remains proud of its heritage and has many historic buildings which are well worth visiting.
Beyond Silves you will find Monchique, a small mountain town with its own timeless identity based on the crops grown on the terraced slopes and surrounding hills. Cork Oak trees flourish in the cooler air alongside orange, fig and almond trees.
Visitors can also drink or bathe in the local natural spring water renowned for its curative powers.
The closest towns to Casa Mocho are Lagoa, the administrative centre for the area with its narrow streets and attractive square, and Portimao with its modern shops, bars and quayside cafes.
There are a number of attractive beaches a short drive from Casa Mocho notably Praia de Centianes with beachside café and changing facilities. Praia de Benagil, Praia Alfanzina and Praia do Carvalho.
Two championship 18 hole golf courses, Pinta and Gramacho are to be found on the western edge of Carvoeiro as well as a David Leadbetter Golf Academy.
Nearer to Casa Mocho is the 9 hole golf course at Vale de Milho, with its modern club house, bar and restaurant which is open to non-members. This course is ideal for beginners or those who want to sharpen up their short game.
